Research Around the World

The website I choose to explore was Early Childhood Australia, there at two reasons why I chose Early Childhood Australia, the first reason is because it's the Australian equivalent to the U.S. based NAEYC and second, my job is talking about sending me there to train teachers, so I wanted to have a strong foundation before I go.

Some of the current international research topics included, The role of research in professionalizing early childhood, why play-based learning, the ethics of early childhood research and my favorite Leveling the Playing field for Kindergarten entry: Research implications for preschool early literacy instruction.

What made this explorations so amazing was how much information I learned about Australia and the different things they are doing with early childhood, for example, the program Kids Matter, which works with early childhood education and other services, to support the mental health and well-being of young children (Early Childhood Australia, n.d.). Another thing that I found that was insightful was about the importance of talking to children and using language everyday. What I learned is that by helping children talk, and by listening and responding to them,  is a critical occurrence that must happened daily both in the present and the future (Early Childhood Australia, n.d.). Children learn from us, so it's important that we set an example, and we provide opportunities for children to use language.

I really enjoyed exploring and learning from this website. Something else that I found valuable is that the website provides a lot of resources, and one of the resources was different modules, some of the modules that are available is outdoor learning, duty care for workers and the role of certified supervisor. I thought this information would be useful to me because there were topics to that interest me.

  1. Cierra,
Congrats on going to Australia! I didn't choose Australia to look at, but it seems like their research topics are similar to the United States. I suppose because of the NAEYC equivalent in Australia. Thanks for your post!

  2. Great deal on going their to teach. I think you will do an awesome job there. But the We should talk to our children everyday. It helps extend their vocabulary and also builds their self confident. I work with 4-5 year olds and they be amazed to see me sit at their table and hold a full conversation with them. I enjoy talking to my kids each day.

  3. Cierra, What a wonderful opportunity you have to go and teach over in Australia. I commented on another classmates post as they also researched the same website. I plan to save the URL and visit the site to see what I can find out that is of interest to me. I especially am interested in the reference you made to the modules that are offered. I think that this site has a wealth of knowledge to share to early childhood professionals.

  4. Cierra, I think that is awesome that you will be sent to Australia! Have fun in the world down under! Other than that I think that your resources from this website are very resourceful and I believe that they will greatly benefit you as well as us here in the US. From our last class, one of my classmates was pen pals with a teacher from Australia. It seems to me that they are very serious about having high quality programs. The only problem this teacher stated was that she had less time with her students due to so much paperwork. I really believe that Australia is on their "A" game.

  5. Cierra,
First, congratulations on your professional opportunity! What a great position to be part of an agency that supports and training its educators beyond the normal boundaries.
Also, I agree with you when you pointed out the similarities between the US and Australia. It is going to interesting to see if those similarities transfer in real life situations. Thank you for sharing with us!
